UAE. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF)- convened with an expert group associated with the Arab Knowledge Project in the Library of Alexandria, Egypt, for their third meeting, held to prepare for the upcoming inaugural edition of the Global Knowledge Index, following the directives of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.

Experts from MBRF – along with the Arab Knowledge Project team – went into the details of the Index’s updated version, as well as the progress made with regards to the upcoming launch of its global version in November, during the Knowledge Summit in Dubai.

The one-of-a-kind Global Knowledge Index covers 140 countries and is put together by top-tier Arab and international experts and consultants using accurate and objective data. It is the fruit of a partnership between the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the Regional Bureau for Arab States at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

HE Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), said: “Our partnership with the Global Management Challenge complements our mission to spread knowledge and facilitate learning across various disciplines through innovative and effective means.

"The Challenge trains and empowers a generation of young leaders, capable of making the right decisions and efficiently managing business. This, in turn, stands to improve corporate performance and achieve greater global competitiveness.”

“Moreover, the Challenge is an ideal opportunity to develop practical and pragmatic methods to implement knowledge and management practices,” he added. "All in a virtual environment that simulates reality and allows participants to share experiences, develop leadership qualities and future-forecasting skills, provide crisis-management tools, stimulate innovative thinking, and employ the latest technologies to achieve goals.”

“The fact that today’s meeting is held at the Library of Alexandria, a global knowledge and culture icon, makes it all the more distinguished,” said Dr Hany Torky, Director of the Arab Knowledge Project.” “The meeting today holds a symbolic significance of the important role played by knowledge in achieving sustainable human development.” He added.

The Index seeks to evaluate knowledge, regarding it as a catalyst for comprehensive and sustainable human development. It covers six main sectors: pre-university education, technical education and vocational training, higher education, economics, information and communication technology (ICT), research & development (R&D) and innovation, as well as knowledge-enabling environments.

The Arab Knowledge Project had organised two previous expert meetings, the first took place in Beirut in May 2017, and the second in Dubai in June 2017.
