UAE. As many as 14 Egyptian start-ups made it to the top 100 selected by World Economic Forum and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group.

This reflects the strength and the quality of the start-up movement in Egypt that has a large pool of tech-savvy young entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs chosen will be among the attendees at WEF’s annual regional conference, which will gather over 1,000 leading policymakers from over 50 countries near the Dead Sea in Jordan from May 19th to 21st.

The start-up scene has spread in the Arab world's most populous country Egypt, the third largest Arab economy, to digitally disrupt and reshape its economic landscape, powered by the country’s growing young population.

According to Forbes Middle East, total funding for the top 20 start-ups of Egypt have raised a total of $24.2 million last year. The most active investors are 500 Startups, an American early-stage venture fund and Cairo Angels.

Of the 20 start-ups, 9 raised more than $1 million. There are 38 angel investors, 17 venture capitalists, and most of the venture capitalists are not Egyptian.

Egyptian start-ups have been stealing the show at every start-up competition around the world for past few years and gave a spectacular performance in AIM Startup Pitch Competition that took place on February 19 and 20, 2018, at Creative Hub Egypt, Omar Afandy.

Five Start-ups, Agrona, Tomatiki, Argineering, Net Care and ReNile – have won the Egypt Roadshow and Pitch Competition. The winners will now compete in the final round at the AIM Startup 2018 Annual Event for selection among the best start-ups in the Middle East.

The winners of the pitch competition will compete in the final round at the AIM Startup and will pitch their projects to a panel of international expert and a massive number of investors with a goal to attract capital investment and to get among the best start-ups in the Middle East.

The content of the event was – “The do's and don'ts” of preparing your pitch deck to showcase your start-up and call for investments.

Dawood Al Shezawi, the CEO of AIM Startup said, “The start-up ecosystem in Egypt is improving exponentially as Egyptian youngsters are leaning more toward tech-based entrepreneurship to build a smart future for themselves and others.

“Most of the start-ups are focusing on digitalizing all services to benefit present and next generations, future innovators, creator, and developers to accelerate country’s economy forward.”

Egypt’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is getting strong due to the unlimited aid of existing big corporations, funds, government’s subsidies, angel investors, marketers, legal counsel and service providers. Newcomers in Egypt are supported with massive backing.

With a purpose to connect the Startup Ecosystem of the Arab world to the global platform, AIM Startup will host a Country Pavilion Arena exclusively for the Arab nations comprising of their exclusive Top start-ups, Incubators and Accelerators and top associations from Arab countries.
